The Institute for Art and Olfaction in New York invites perfumers and perfume brands owners to take part in The Art and Olfaction Awards 2015! |
First year (for perfumes launched in 2013) perfumes were nominated in two categories: Independent and Artisan. This time the organizers have added the third category, named Sadakichi Award for Experimental Scent.
"Intended to celebrate experimentation and boundary pushing in creative scent-making, 2015’s Art and Olfaction Sadakichi Award for Experimental Scent will be presented to one outstanding experimental scent project out of five finalists.
Sadakichi Hartmann was a writer, philosopher and artist. In the beginning of the 19th century, he staged a scent concert that went spectacularly wrong. In naming the Experimental Award after him, we hope to honor his legacy of curiosity and risk-taking in scent." (more details here)

JUDGES
Although the judges represent diverse modes of practice, all share three common attributes: A love of perfumery, a deep sense of engagement with independent and artisan scent creation, and extensive knowledge of their particular field of interest in scent. Anyone serving as a judge will agree to being disqualified as a competitor from that year’s competition.
Please note: The judges will be reviewing the submissions blindly.

JUDGING PARAMETERS
The judges for the independent and artisan categories will be reviewing the submissions blindly. Your submission will be tracked by a number, and nothing else. All they will see to contextualize what they are smelling is your small text describing your intention for the scent.
The judges for the experimental award category will not be reviewing the projects blindly. This is because the judges will require supporting material in order to effectively assess the project, and that material will most likely contain identifying information. However, in order to maintain fairness and impartiality, any judges with personal connections to submitted projects will not be able to score those projects.
