New from Imaginary Authors: Every Storm a Serenade

by: Jodi Battershell

“I patter on the typewriter all day but the letters on the page are like raindrops on a window. I fear I may be losing my mind.”
—Niels Bjerregaard
And so begins the newest "volume" from Imaginary Authors, Every Storm a Serenade. The first edition attributed to "imaginary author" Niels Bjerregaard (in reality, all "authors" in the series are alter egos of the house's founder and perfumer, Josh Meyer), this latest scent offers green, aromatic and off-season beachy vibes from the coast of Denmark, with Danish spruce a featured note, along with the herbal green of eucalyptus, dry and grassy vetiver and ocean/melon-y notes of Calone, rounded out by ambergris and mist from the Baltic sea.
In keeping with the house's vintage-inspired fanciful design, the label and imagery reflect the notes of the fragrance with cool blues and greens, a white iceberg and the hint of a whale tail disappearing below the water. (The house now credits a creative director, Ashod Simonian, and the entire website has been redesigned to better showcase the beautiful colors and unique imagery for each scent.) The backstory for Every Storm a Serenade evokes romanticism, passion and a profound sense of longing:

"When Stina, a burgeoning writer, decamps to her mother’s summer house for the winter to write a book, her trip overlaps for one day (and one steamy night) with a brawny fisherman named Ulv. While she struggles to gain traction with her novel, her fixation on the mysterious seafarer results in countless unsent letters, the contents of which chronicle the spiraling psyche of lust and longing. Set on the desolate west coast of Denmark during the tourist off-season, Every Storm a Serenade is a meditative masterwork that will lull you with its well-designed sentences and intimate tone."
—Imaginary Authors

Notes: Danish Spruce, Eucalyptus, Vetiver, Calone, Ambergris and Baltic Sea Mist
Every Storm a Serenade is a unisex eau de parfum available in a 50 ml bottle for $95.00. Samples of this fragrance and all scents from Imaginary Authors are also available for purchase, along with full-size fragrances, on the official Imaginary Authors website. Bottles are also available at select retailers throughout the United States, Canada and the UK.

An Air of Despair from Imaginary Authors

American perfume house Imaginary Authors, founded by perfumer Josh Meyer, announced a new perfume and a new intriguing story—An Air of Despair. The house is known for its very interesting concept, its perfumes that tell the stories of non-existent authors, and for its very unusual accords which are very true to the real-life objects that inspired them, like tennis balls, asphalt, evening air and the month of May, for example.
"An Air of Despair" is a Limited Edition and will only be available this Summer/Fall '15. Sadness is a leitmotif of its composition.

"When Vivian Gwyn's parents mysteriously disappear one month before her eighteenth birthday it foils an elaborate plan she had to kill them herself. In her search for clues as to their whereabouts she finds an elegant mink coat and a safe full of valuables in her mother's cedar closet. Keeping the coat but selling everything else, she embarks on a glamorous adventure that takes her from the small Tennessee town where she grew up to luxurious penthouses in Manhattan, runways in Milan, and finally the castle in Switzerland from which she learns she is a descendant. No expense is spared in Viv's valiant quest to shake the sadness that plagued her upbringing and she quickly learns it's not riches that bring happiness but happiness that brings riches."

NOTES: Cedar, Saffron, Musk & Sadness
"Imaginary Authors is born from the concept of scent as art and art as provocation. Like a good book, these scents are meant to inspire you. In these bottles are layered narratives that are sure to generate stirring conversation, fragrances that might be capable of changing the course of your own personal story. The hope is that they not only invigorate and intoxicate, but also take you to new places."

Imaginary Authors' Newest: A City On Fire

Imaginary Authors
announces the release of  A City On Fire, a new exclusive fragrance developed for Portland retailer Machus, a modern menswear retailer focused on forward concepts and clean classics in the Lower East Burnside neighborhood.by: Jodi Battershell
In keeping with the motif of this literary-inspired house, the new fragrance comes with a compelling backstory:
"A brilliantly dark graphic novel, A City On Fire, is the story of two match-makers. Rupert literally fabricates matches in a factory on the waterfront while Frances writes a dating column for the city's newspaper. Both are recluses who haunt the night's shadows observing clandestine activities from afar but never partaking. That changes one fortuitous evening when they are both witness to the same high-profile murder and are forced to come together as an unlikely vigilante pair in order to save their own names."—Imaginary Authors
Imaginary Authors recommends this striking new scent for evening wear, noting "the refined smoke accord makes this an austere and luxurious scent for evenings on the town, whether with a special someone or alone and looking for trouble."
NOTES: Cade oil, Spikenard, Cardamom, Clearwood, Dark Berries, Labdanum and Burnt Matches
The fragrance is an eau de parfum, available in 30 ml and 60 ml sizes from Machus and the official Imaginary Authors website.
