Rihanna's biggest regret in life: not wearing a bedazzled thong

ihanna is back once again on the cover of American Vogue, wearing a plunging, sequinned gown by Tom Ford as she emerges from a sea of water.
In the issue she reveals that her biggest regret in life is how she wore the sheer Swarovski-encrusted Adam Selman gown to the CFDA Awards in 2014. She doesn't remotely regret wearing the nipple-flashing gown, but the thong she had on underneath it.
She says in her cover interview: “I just liked it better without the lines underneath. Could you imagine the CFDA dress with a bra? I would have slit my throat. I already wanted to, for wearing a thong that wasn’t bedazzled. That’s the only regret I have in my life.”

The 'naked gown' she wore to pick up the Icon Award is one of the most daring red carpet looks of all time. It was made of fishnet and 230,000 Swarovski crystals, with eight people working through the night to finish it in time for the red carpet appearance. Her stylist Mel Ottenberg said to Style.com: "We definitely wanted to make it a little bit scandalous."
The 28-year-old singer showed her upcoming collection for Puma at New York Fashion Week, and she explained to Vogue why she made it unisex. “I always wanted to do what my brothers were doing,” she says. “I always wanted to play the games they played and play rough and wear pants and go outside.”

This feeling hasn't changed: “Women feel empowered when they can do the things that are supposed to be only for men, you know? It breaks boundaries, it’s liberating, and it’s empowering when you feel like, 'Well, I can do that, too'.”
In the interview she also addresses the perceived rivalry with Beyoncé, and explains she doesn't feel threatened by the success of her new anthem 'Formation.'
“Here’s the deal," she explains. "They just get so excited to feast on something that’s negative. Something that’s competitive. Something that’s, you know, a rivalry. And that’s just not what I wake up to. Because I can only do me. And nobody else is going to be able to do that.”

Assim desfilou a Preen e Mulberry.

NYFW FW16 Designer Inspirations: BCBG, Banana Republic, Milly And More Share Influences

New York Fashion Week officially kicks off on Thursday, but before you check out what your favorite designers send down the fall/winter 2016 runways, we wanted to share with you the inspiration behind some of these creative collections.

NYFW
Below, some of our favorite brands, like Elie Tahari, Milly and Tadashi Shoji, share their fall/winter 2016 inspirations. Keep reading to learn more, and let us know which collection you're most excited to see this New York Fashion Week in the comment section below.

"My inspirations derive directly from the concept stages of industrial designs and architectural blueprints. I owe a large part of my inspiration to my attraction of industrial material in fabrics. A black tone has been set as the foundation of my designs along with costume quilted neoprene."

"The collection envisions the strong and independent image of women in the next generation by using architectural elements and geometric forms."

"The glamorous women of Old Hollywood and their sensuality alongside their fascinating attitude are the inspiration behind my fall/winter 2016 collection, Extinct.' The subtle shine of the beaded mesh fabric combined with magnificent faux fur in rich shades of mysterious black and blue are reminiscent of days gone by and yet at the same time offer a fresh, modern take on romance and luxury without compromise or sacrifice."

"My fall/winter 2016 collection embodies the tranquility of the sea after a thin layer of ice has formed on the surface. The designs capture the cave-like silhouettes and iridescent hues that continue to exist beneath the surface of the ocean."

"Inspired by the tension of structured ease."

"Our muse is a performer at heart, with an artistic sensibility."

"The luxury of art reveals in an unruly way."

"He gently flows in my heart."

"A vintage mood meets a modern city."

"For fall/winter 2016 Demi Park, known for her minimalist and monochromatic collections, sought inspiration in Korean traditional garb. The collection is an homage to the designer's mother, whom she would only see rarely as she was growing up for important holidays, then dressed in more traditionally korean attire, such as the hanbok, a typically Korean dress."

"Past modern."

"We design for the women that surround us, our new collection embodies these women."
(Photo : Courtesy/Milly)
"From couture/utilitarian to soft/structured and masculine/feminine, my Milly fall/winter 2016 collection is a spirited study of duality."
(Photo : Courtesy/Georgine)
"Fall/winter 2016 is all about magic! I re-read all the Grimm's Fairy Tales I loved as a child and reinterpreted the heroines and villains of those stories into modern day characters living in a 21st century, urban, magical forest."

"The things that do not last are the most beautiful."

"The mood is rejuvenation found in going against the grain. One always rises after a fall; instead of falling apart, she strives to elevate and rise above. She navigates a metropolitan landscape with attitude and a luminous energy. In this way, this collection builds upon the marred backdrop of yesterday. A palette of sunshine yellow and pale mint contrast with deep navy and asphalt gray, done beautifully in cocoon shapes, wrapped silhouettes and asymmetrical hemlines. Smooth knits are done in exaggerated proportions, sleeves grow longer and fur pockets stand out from sleek, draped shirting."

"There's no denying that the world is in a bit of a state. What we know, whether it be politics or fashion, is suddenly not what it is or has been. The rules are changing, but no one seems to have a playbook, so we're all just trying to hold on. For fall/winter 2016 we wanted to explore with the idea of subversion and tradition — creating fabrics and silhouettes that at once feel both familiar and new, pretty and off. Creating a collection that felt true to us and who we are as a brand, referential and colorful, but also pushed and mildly uncomfortable."

"Exploring androgyny with shape, texture, and sheer simplicity."
(Photo : Courtesy/Tadashi Shoji)
"Skin beautification."

"The fall/winter 2016 collection is inspired by the Victorian era. This season is filled with a combination of traditional heritage and modern silhouettes."
(Photo : Courtesy/Rohitava Banerjee)
"My work reflects my eternal love for history and narrative, drawing parallels between history and today's contemporary world. My fall/winter 2016 line is inspired by Greece — both its mythical past and the tumultuous economic times of the present. The show is divided into five sections representing the five rivers to the Greek underworld. The audience can expect to see a collection inspired by pure fantasy, experimenting with silhouettes, unexpected shapes and detailed embroidery."

"Hybrid."
(Photo : Courtesy/Adrienne Landau)
"The collection is a departure from the expected with Landau citing inspiration from the diverse New York City urban culture and how she sees people wearing her luxury collection in real life."

"As a child, my family spent time in England and I remember my uncle's mother Jean, a well-known print designer working in London in the 60's and 70's. She created beautiful floral prints, exotic Indian paisleys and patterns, often inspired by Kate Greenaway's illustrations. Jean's influence and spirit is found in my latest collection. It's a collage of textures, techniques and flora motifs made modern in their application. I'd like to tribute this collection to her — Jean passed away late last year at the grand old age of 100."

"Fall/winter 2016 is a play on masculine tailoring and feminine silhouettes. With juxtaposition between androgyny and romance, there is a subtle and unexpected sexiness throughout."
(Photo : Courtesy/Custo Barcelona)
"Not only does this season mark an important benchmark in the career of the designer, it also reflects on the end of a cycle and thus a new beginning that introduces a different concept within Custo's brand DNA: The overall color palette is softened, there are less graphics and mixtures of fabrics, and to mark the change more drastically, a lot of black appears throughout the collection, where it was quasi absent before. Intricate details, embroidery and lace also move the collection towards more sophistication and luxury, appealing to a more fashion-conscious consumer."

DKNY Spring/Summer 2016: First Ad Campaign Under Dao-Yi Chow, Maxwell Osborne Revealed

Designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne just revealed their first ad campaign for DKNY after being named creative directors back in April.

The powerful black-and-white images were photographed by Lachlan Bailey at Red Hook Labs in Brooklyn. For DKNY's spring ads, the designers tapped modelAdrienne Jüliger.
"[Jüliger] is versatile. She looks youthful, but also strong and sophisticated. We wanted a woman who could show all sides of herself. Adrienne's change is subtle,"  Chow told WWD.
He and Osborne wanted to emphasize the ideal woman behind the brand's designs, and that their DKNY customer is more mature than a girl.
"We always refer to her as a woman," Chow said in an interview last September, prior to his first DKNY show, according to WWD.
"The modern woman we envision has just started getting into her own in terms of career, starting a family, her life is multilayered with different dimensions. When you're young, it's not as complex. For us, those complexities and those dimensions are the interesting pieces in determining what she wants to wear," Chow explained.

Paco Rabanne is the most exciting thing in Paris

There's something interesting going on at Paco Rabanne. Yes, I mean that slightly naff fashion house whose original Basque-born designer (real name Francisco Rabaneda-Cuervo) found fame in the 1960s with dresses ingeniously constructed from plates of metal and plastic, but whose hitherto notoriety stemmed from his repeated predictions of the apocalypse.
,
Rabanne retired in 1999, his house floundering somewhat but churning out best-selling perfume – its men's scent, Invictus, is the UK's best-selling male fragrance, replacing 1 Million, another Rabanne. The succession of designers has been less assured: in the early 2000s, US designer Patrick Robinson took the helm; then Indian-born Manish Arora; then Lydia Maurer, a rather anonymous French designer who formerly worked at Givenchy. Arora came closest to the styles of a designer dubbed “Wacko Paco”, with dresses made from pleated paper and flying-saucer Philip Treacy hats. Maurer was ousted in favour of Julien Dossena in 2013.
And here's where the story gets interesting. Dossena is a disciple of Nicolas Ghesquière, latterly of Louis Vuitton but for 15 years the head of Balenciaga, where his work was universally acclaimed for a fusion of the technologically advanced, the historically reverent and the currently relevant. It's a tough mix to get right. Dossena was rumoured to be up for the Balenciaga gig – as if to nix the rumours, Ghesquière and his right-hand woman, the stylist Marie-Amélie Sauvé, sat front-row at Dossena's spring show. They also both turned up to the cocktail and dinner held during couture week to inaugurate Rabanne's Paris store.

More than anything else, what Dossena's work reminds me of most is the early days of Nicolas Ghesquière's Balenciaga. Not in terms of direct aesthetic reference, but in spirit. It reminds me of women fighting to get Ghesquière's skinny cargo trousers, studded and distressed leather bags and slender-cut jackets, because they concisely elucidated the often-opaque notion of cool, reactivating the then-dusty Balenciaga label for the present. You feel the same at Paco Rabanne, right now. It doesn't happen often, but it's exciting to watch it unfold. Said boutique is brutalist, metal-clad, with harshly lit white shelving. It looks like a cross between a hyper-modern library and the cargo bays on Red Dwarf. Dossena's clothes are similar fusions of utility and austerity, decorative metal mesh jangling against bog-standard sweatshirting. Some garments are a bit sci-fi, with zips and scuba detailing and the occasional go-faster stripe pasted incongruously across the midriff. All in all, it's a strange bunch of stuff – the metal and techy materials lassoing it to the Rabanne legacy of Barbarella tin-foil frocks, but with something of the late 1970s and early 1980s in the proportions.
