Mark Buxton: a Unique Fragrance Called Amsterdam

by: Eugeniya Chudakova

Tomorrow, the 18th of November, a presentation of a new book by the Dutch photographer and founder of the non-profit fund Stichting Famous City Amsterdam, Marte Visser, will be held in the city of Amsterdam. All proceeds from the sales of the book Famous City Amsterdam  will be donated to the cancer research laboratory of Dr. Jacco van Rheenen, Principal Investigator at the Hubrecht Institute in The Netherlands.
The Van Rheenen lab investigates cells within a tumor that are responsible for the growth and spread of cancer, or metastasis, which is the primary cause of cancer-related death. Using newly developed, state-of-the-art microscopy techniques, the researchers observe how cancer cells leave the primary tumor and travel to other organs. By focusing on these specific cells, exposing their behavior, ground breaking new insights will be obtained on how cancer spreads throughout the body. Researchers will use these new insights to improve the current clinical strategies to target cancer.
Marte Visser, daughter of the late professor C.A.Visser who died of pancreatic cancer, wanted to support cancer research, which led to the idea of the book Famous City Amsterdam.
"Every day, world famous actors, scientists, musicians, artists, and athletes from all over the world can be found exploring the streets and canals of Amsterdam. But what attracts them to the Netherlands’ capital city? And what stories can they tell us about the time they’ve spent in the Venice of the North? This book will feature 35 portraits of celebrities,  alongside anecdotes of their personal experiences in Amsterdam. Seen through their eyes, new facets of this great city, and of the people themselves, are revealed. Amsterdam has served not only as a temporary home, but also as a muse."
