Lily of the valley, with its at once sharp and deeply green floralcy, represents something more than a spring-time blossom; it's considered the traditional good luck charm for the French who like to gift each other a bouquet on May 1st. Guerlain, the French perfume house, has catered to this tradition amply through the years.
In April 2016, Guerlain will present a completely new edition of their Le Muguetperfume. The history of this fragrance begins with the first version, created byJacques Guerlain in 1908. It was creamy and powdery, with pronounced iris. The modern reinterpretation circulating annually as a limited edition launched in late April and signed by Jean-Paul Guerlain, first saw the light of day in 1998, being fresher and more vivid, with sharp bergamot notes and emphasized lilac. It is this perfume composition that has remained featured in the limited editions that appeared from 2006 to 2015 (except for 2010).
The new composition of the Muguet fragrance is created by Thierry Wasser, announced as a natural and modern reboot of the scent with dewy rose, jasmine and green foliage. The composition is supposedly gentler, greener, more creamy and rosy, as well as brighter. It is launched shortly before May Day, celebrated in France by giving a bouquet of lily-of-the-valley to one's dear ones.
