Norell New York

by:
 Jodi Battershell

Designer Norman Norell, known for revolutionizing American ready-to-wear and dressing the most stylish women of his day (Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy and Lauren Bacall, among others) launched his first fragrance—considered by many to be the first American designer fragrance—in 1968. Norell passed away in 1972, but the original Norell scent created by perfumer Josephine Catapano lives on. Declining somewhat in status and popularity over the years, but buoyed by a notable ad campaign featuring celebrated actress Faye Dunaway in the 1990s, this fragrance remains available today and is an acknowledged feminine classic.
In 2015, the original fragrance is re-released by Parlux Fragrances Ltd as Norell New York. Norell New York has been reimagined and modernized for today, to celebrate the next generation of American style setters with the pure quality of its ingredients and an exquisite blend of notes.
Like the original, Norell New York is a green floral, created in a modern style this time by IFF perfumer Celine Barel, who invites us to rediscover the artistry and craftsmanship of perfume. Norell New York opens with the lush radiance of an airy floral bouquet and dries down to a sensual finish. Each bottle contains over 200 Jasmine petals as well as Orris Butter, a most noble and expensive ingredient. The core collection includes Eau de Parfum, Body Oil and Body Cream, complemented by a luxurious limited edition Parfum presented in a handcrafted bottle by the internationally acclaimed French crystal house, Baccarat.

Top Notes: Galbanum, Bergamot, Pear, Mandarin
Heart Notes: Jasmine Petals, Peony, Orchid, Gardenia
Base Notes: Orris Butter, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Musk
The associated ad campaign celebrates the fashion legacy of Norman Norell through collaboration with the trendsetters of today. The ad features Riley Keough, the granddaughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, who has inherited her grandfather's legendary magnetism and her mother's classic beauty. Keough wears an original Norman Norell design that looks as modern today as when it was first created. Michael Avedon, grandson of legendary photographer Richard Avedon, shot the campaign in a way that evokes a sense of nostalgia with its unique, timeless quality. Together, the model and photographer represent a new age of iconic style, beauty and artistry and celebrate the essence of Norell New York.

Norell New York launches mid-August 2015 and will be available exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman in New York and Neiman Marcus nationwide. The assortment and its suggested retail prices are as follows:
